The founder, Peter, is a Hong Konger who went to Switzerland to study in 1970. In 1979, he was invited by La Prairie to join the joint R&D team. Later, when La Prairie was sold to another company, Peter founded the Bellefontaine brand in 2003. The R&D, production and packaging are all handled by Switzerland . Bellefontaine mainly caters to guests at the SPA and skin care centers in European hotels, and has also entered the spa and skin care center of the five-star Bvlgari Paris Hotel in Paris, France.

Bellefontaine means beautiful spring. The spring comes from the pure and pollution-free glacier meltwater from the Swiss Alps and the DNA of various high-quality plants. It originated from the Swiss Anti-Aging Medical Center, and later developed plant living cell therapy, which was patented by Bellefontaine. It is currently the exclusive anti-aging formula of Swiss national living cell technology: the patented compound Edelgen can enhance skin anti-oxidation and delay aging. It is combined with Alpine glacier water and hyaluronic acid, a super water-locking factor.
